Apprenticeship as a mechatronics technician (m/f/x) - Full time
What does a mechatronics engineer do?
The role of a mechatronics technician combines the fields of mechanics and electronics. As a mechatronics technician, you will assemble mechanical, electrical and electronic components. Using circuit diagrams and operating manuals, you will build and install production lines or automated production systems. If faults occur, you will identify and rectify them using digital and mechanical measuring instruments.
What you can expect:
- Installation of electrical components and systems
You’ll learn how to install electrical systems and equipment in a variety of environments. - Maintenance and servicing
To ensure trouble-free operation, electrical systems must be regularly inspected and maintained. - Fault diagnosis and repair
You will identify and rectify faults in electrical installations. - Programming and Configuration
You will learn how to set up and customise control software for industrial systems. - Installation and Monitoring
Your responsibilities will also include organising and supervising the installation of systems, including coordinating with other trades. - Safety checks
Carrying out safety checks and functional tests on electrical installations and systems will form part of your daily duties. - Technical drawing and planning
You will produce technical documentation and schematics for electrical systems. - Customer and user training
You will provide users with instruction on how to operate and handle the installed equipment. - Basics
Every apprenticeship involves learning the basics. That’s what you can expect from us too. You’ll be shown the correct techniques for turning, milling and filing, so that by the end you’ll be holding exactly the component that the machine was still missing. - Monitoring production and mechanical processes
This means ensuring that machines and systems are always ready for operation and functioning optimally. - Assembling machines and plant
At customers’ production sites, you’ll assemble entire machines and systems and commission them.
What you should bring to the role:
- Education: Good knowledge of maths, physics and technology; a good secondary school leaving certificate or higher
- An interest in technology
- An interest in electricity and physics, and in calculating areas and volumes
- Organisational skills and a commitment to perfection: as a mechatronics engineer, you will often have to handle several tasks at once
How long does the apprenticeship last?
Usually 3.5 years under the dual system. The duration may be shortened if you have prior knowledge.
Where will I work?
You’ll spend most of your training on the production floor. You’ll work in the following departments:
- Electrical workshop
Getting to know tools and machinery, practical projects, and later planning and carrying out your own projects. - Metalworking shop
The basics of mechanical work, e.g. welding. Guidance and support with projects. - Turning shop
An introduction to turning and machining through practical exercises.
