What does a technical product designer do?

As a technical product designer (m/f/x), you will be responsible for planning and developing product designs and concepts. You will create drawings, 3D models and technical documentation. You will work closely with engineers, design engineers and other specialist departments.

What you can expect:

• Creating technical drawings
  You will produce precise 2D and 3D drawings of components and entire products, taking into account technical and manufacturing specifications.
• Modelling with CAD software (SolidWorks)
  You will use the SolidWorks CAD program to model components and assemblies, as well as to produce technical drawings.
• Design
  You will work with engineers and design engineers to find technical solutions and improve existing designs.
• Preparation of product documentation
  Your responsibilities will include creating lists of materials, assembly instructions and technical descriptions.
• Calculations and simulations
  Simple calculations for tolerances, dimensions and forces, as well as some simulations of components.
• Coordination with other departments
  Close collaboration with engineers, design engineers and the production department.

What you should bring to the role:

• Education: Good knowledge of mathematics, physics and technology; a good secondary school certificate or higher
• An interest in technology and an affinity for 3D modelling and technical drawings
• CAD skills (basic training in SolidWorks will be provided)
• Attention to detail
• Communication skills

How long does the apprenticeship last?

Usually 3.5 years under the dual system (company + vocational school). The duration may be shortened if you have prior qualifications (vocational A-levels, university entrance qualification for applied sciences or a completed vocational qualification in a technical field).

Where will I be working?

• Design: Main department during training
• Manufacturing: In-house work placement in the first year of the apprenticeship
